Vernon Henrikson was a faithful man. That was the word that kept coming up at his funeral. He was a true Christian: generous, kind, loving, and supportive. He took care of his wife for ten years as she was ill with Alzheimers. Never did he mention putting her in a home. That is faithfulnees for sure. He was always involved with family. Every time we had a family gathering (which is quite often, since we love to get together for holidays and birthdays) he was there. I am thankful that he was able to come to Audrey's party and we saw him two days later at Father's day. He was active up until the very end, when he died suddenly in his home.
He sang in the choir and was treasurer at his church. It was also said that he had perfect pitch. He will be well missed among his friends and associates at Calvary Memorial Church, where he was a member for 40+ years. The choir sang at his funeral, which was very kind and touching. The music and messages given at the funeral were very good. It was sad, of course to say goodbye, but wonderful to celebrate a life well lived, and to know that Vern is in a better place.
Vern was an accountant, which is maybe where Jason got his math and number genes. He did everyone's taxes in the family and was very meticulous with his records. He loved to golf and play bowling. He golfed the week he died. It is a blessing he was able to be active until the very end and then go very suddenly.
He will be missed, but we are thankful for his life and the kindness and generosity he has shown to us.

awww....we send our condolences. It is always hard to lose a loved one so suddenly, but it is so wonderful to focus on the beautiful qualities of that person. our thoughts and prayers are with your families.
Sarah and Jason, we are so sorry. What a nice tribute to him on your blog. I remember meeting him at your wedding, but didn't really know him. He sounds like he was a really wonderful person. We're thinking of you all!
